FRIDAY JUNE 30, 2000
==============================================
Note: in the event that the performance judging must be postponed due to violent weather on Thursday June 29, the performance judging will continue on Friday June 30. The likelihood of this is remote due to the June weather patterns in Southeast Washington State. Should the competition spill over into the "rain day", all previously scheduled events will be shifted accordingly.
----- IMPORTANT GENERAL INFORMATION FOR THE TEAMS -----
Thursday 29/Friday 30 Teams are encouraged to set up their entries for display at the competition site after their run has concluded. Expensive or delicate equipment should be removed to a secure area as soon as it is no longer needed.
Tuesday 27 through Friday 30 Teams may want to do flights for the public under "manual control". This is acceptable and encouraged, but you must clear such flights with an AUVS official on site beforehand so precautions can be taken to assure that the public out of the arena. All such flights must be within the confines of the arena.
PARKING: Please park in the main HAMMER parking lot. Please plan to attend the orientation on Tuesday June 27 (to be held in the HAMMER "TSB"). Follow the signs to the TSB static judging area just prior to 9:00 AM. Important information about the conduct of the competition at HAMMER will be given during this meeting. During your initial set up and final take-down, you will be able to park temporarily near the "Burn Building" adjacent to the arena. This is only for equipment unloading and loading, and that is to occur only while flight testing or competition runs are not in progress.
ID PASSES: All valid team members (not entire families) whose names are provided beforehand, AUVSI staff, judges, and designated helpers will may be provided with HAMMER ID badges at the orientation meeting on Tuesday June 27. These badges will identify you as part of the competition during the event. You may eat at the HAMMER Restaurant located in the north end of the Administration Building. Photos from the 1998 and 1999 International Aerial Robotics Competition will be on display in the Restaurant.
WHAT SHOULD YOU WEAR?: Casual business attire is acceptable (e.g., polo shirts and khaki pants). Team members should wear their team T-shirts during the days of the static and performance judging. AUVSI Competition T-shirts to be given out at orientation are also acceptable.
OPERATING HOURS: Competition practices will be open to you from Sun up until dark daily from Tuesday June 27 through Friday June 30. Work on vehicles can continue beyond these limits, but adequate lighting and lack of frequency control monitoring could make flight operations unsafe. It is recommended that work during dark hours be limited to nonflight activities. Also, teams arriving earlier than Tuesday must make special arrangements for flight tests are will need to be self-policing regarding frequency use.
SECURITY: Security will be provided at all times from Tuesday through Friday. Team members are encouraged to take any and all valuables with them when they leave the display areas for the evening. HAMMER and AUVSI are not responsible for any lost or stolen items.
CAN I ASSEMBLE MY VEHICLE ON LOCATION: Yes, however we encourage you to have your vehicle as complete as possible prior to your arrival. We are aware that minimal assembling will be necessary. All teams are responsible for providing the tools necessary to assemble their individual vehicles.
POWER: HAMMER will provide clean 110 VAC, 60 Hz power to the arena and to the team tents. Each tent will have 3-prong grounded outlet receptacles. The starting area of the arena will also have 3-prong grounded outlet receptacles. Plan to bring your own outlet expanders to suit your needs. Teams using 50 Hz or 220 VAC power must supply their own transformers/converters. Power will be commercial (not generator) and will be available 24 hours a day.
USE OF 2-WAY RADIOS: As you are all aware, each team will radiate on various frequencies during the conduct of its robotic missons. The team members often use personal communicators during a run. All frequencies of operation should be noted so AUVSI can relay these not only to each of the teams, but also to HAMMER for their information. HAMMER has checked and frequencies in the 72 MHz, 50 MHz, and 900 MHz bands should encounter no significant interference. Be advised that there is an R/C air field several miles from the HAMMER site.
SHIPPING: You can have items shipped to HAMMER (prepaid) in advance of your arrival. Use this address: HAMMER Training Center TSB/6092 Building 2890 Horn Rapids Rd Richland, WA 99352 Attn: Kim Lampson - IARC (school name) Also, your team is responsible for shipping your equipment back after the competition. Do not expect HAMMER to package up your equipment and pay to ship it back to your school. International teams should start early to secure all documents necessary for international shipments.
IMPORTANT: Please ensure that "your team name" and the name of the event (International Aerial Robotics Competition or IARC) is on the package being shipped. Shipping costs to/from HAMMER will be YOUR responsibility.
